Welcome to Arvid Smith's web site. For four decades Arvid has been working within and outside of the musical box. His eclectic approach succeeds in molding diverse elements into distinct and unified musical works. "Sure, how many times have I heard that one?" you may ask, but his output has won critical acclaim from some very distinct and diverse areas. How many performers out there could count both The Kennedy Center for The Performing Arts and CBGBs on their venue list?

As a founder member of Tammerlin (with Lee Hunter) he garnered praise from critics in the folk/americana arena (see the above link) and his contributions to the ambient genre and holistic yoga environs are winning new listeners daily. Whether performing on sitar, lap steel, acoustic fingerstyle 12 string (in the American Primitive style) or the searing leads of the electric blues guitar, Arvid leaves his mark.

His soundscapes have graced independent film and video projects and his solo performances incorporate those very sounds and ideas into entertaining and up to the minute club sets.

I am immensely proud of my involvement with Canary In The Coal Mine, a group that I fell in with through my good friend Trey Andrews. Trey cut their first tracks and played bass and helped a lot in getting the group off the ground before he relocated to his love in Norfolk in November.  So to date Jessica Pounds , Sandra E. Wicker, Jonathan Plant, Chris Buck and myself have been spreading the dark gospel, southern hanging wash in Appalachia Gothic ethos that falls from the dusty shelf of Jessica & Sandra’s pen.  In recent days a series of downloads has appeared on FB through Reverb Nation. Check us out and refer to the updated calender here for show dates………..this morning is just right for a yoga class methinks.

Hello To All

Very Early in the morning here and the house is dark, the cat is still and there is the pattering of Rain outside. A sound not heard around here in a while. Very hard at work on a new song by Mr. Venkatesh set in raag Brindivani Sarang, which strangely enough is a 5 note melody pattern to evoke the raining season. Set to a drut (make that fast!) cycle of 8 beats. Follows a very logical note sequence and my wrists ache with agreement…..
